(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WES.TRA.LIA prosperous. PERTH. July 28. The Westralian State Parliament was opened to-day by the Governor, who, in his speech, said that the past season had been the most favourable in the State's history. Tho wool production was over fifty million pounds in weight, and the number of sheep had increased from six hundred thousand to seven and a half millions.
A ROUGH VOYAGE. (Received this day at 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 29. Tho steamer Baron Minlo had a tempestuous voyage from Auckland to Sydney. The vessel bail .scarcely sighted Three Kings when she ran into the most adverse weather since leaving. She was exposed to the full force of the cyclone, which had been operating between the Australian Coast and New Zealand. The speed at one time was reduced to 2 : | knots, the vessel pitching, rolling and straining heavily as she ploughed her way through mountainous seas. At times huge waves broke com plot cly~ over the bridge, the decks being continually awash and the officers' quarters flooded. The chief engineer while walking along the deck was caught by a huge wave and nearly washed overboard. He had his shoulder disc-located. Heavy weather lasted till the vessel reached Sydney.
INCREASED CHARGES. SYDNEY. July 28. As an outcome of the. increase of the basic wage, child endowment levy and increased cost of foodstuffs, a meeting of rostauranteurs decided to increase the price of meals, the in-
crease to take the shape of a penny per meal .service charge. Bus services are also increasing fares to meet the added costs of the basic wage and child endowment. NEW GUINEA GOLD FIELD. SYDNEY, July 28.
Latest- news from New Guinea goldfields reports important developments, the anticipation of the discovery of gold hearing reefs having been fulfilled. On Day Dawn syndicates property at Bulolo, a reel was struck at a depth of 1(5 feet, samples from one part of which yielded 21 ounces and on the other part twenty ounces of gold to the ton.
STATE RADIO. SYDNEY, July 28
The Premier of New South Males, Mr Lang, to-day announced that the Government has decided to take immediate stops to launch-a State M ireless Service, and will erect a broadcasting station and relaying stations, to enable the people in the country districts to have the same advantages as the listeners-in have in the metropolitan area.
CHETS-TCTTURCTT. July 29. At a. meeting of the- New Zealand Hockey Association, tho M’ollington and Canterbury Associations wrote regretting that on account of having' no available players, both Associations were compelled to withdraw theii entries for the Shield tournament. Canterbury Association offered to send a team to meet the winner of the Auckland v. MTiiknto match in September. It was decided to advise Auckland of the withdrawals.
