R ESIDENCE BCR NT. WANG AN Cl. July 28.

A six-roomed residence occupied by G. S. Vance and family in Montgomery Street, St. John’s Ilill, was destroyed by lire early this morning. The lire spread with great rapidity, the occupants escaping in. their night attire, with the loss of everything. Insurances are unavailable. CLEARING THE SUP. PUKEKOIIH. July 28. The work of clearing the Pacrata. slip is a bigger job than first anticipated. A large gang is still working arduously and it is expected the line will be open for traffic late to-night. Passenger service is being maintained by transhipment at the obstruction.
