WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. At last night’s meeting of the above Committee at Greymouth it was resolved to play the Newman Shield match, Grey v. Hokitika, at 1.30 p.m. on Victoria Park, on August Oth, the date on which the Maori All Blacks play at Greymouth. A letter was received from the New Zealand Rugby Union advising that they had no objection to teams ansemhliug two days belore representative matches. It was resolved to advise Hokitika Sub-Union that arrangements were not yet completed ' with Canterbury re a visit of their representatives. It was resolVed to send a letter to the New Zealand Rugby Union protesting against the non-selcction oi Coast referees for inter-provincial matches. It. was resolved to point out to the Nelson Union that the rule re charges for Soddon Shield matches was not adhered to. It was resolved to wire Golden Bay i nion asking for confirmation of the date for their match at Greymouth. Tt was decided to send letters ol thanks to the Nelson Union, and to Mr Slierloew (proprietor of Wakatu Hotel) for courtesies extended during the rep. team’s stay in Nelson. Arrangements for the Maori match were reported to be complete. Mr Casey, of 'Westport, bad been appointed referee. ft was decided to make the following (barges: flouts 2s, ladies Is, school children free. H was also resolved io approach private car owners with a view to entertaining the Maori All Blacks on Sunday, the 7th. Fixtures for next Saturday are: Senior Chip Final.—Stars v. Kaniori. at Victoria Park, A ground. 3 p.m. (Air Mclntosh, referee): United v. Magpies at Gladstone, at 3 p.m. (Mr V> illiams). Owing to the school teams visiting Hokitika, no fifth grade matches will he played next Saturday.

APPEAL BY HAWKE’S BAY. N AIMER, July 20. The Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union today notified the New Zealand Rugby Union that it would appeal to the New Zealand Appeal Council against the recent decision of the New Zealand Management Committee in the Wairarapa protest. The Hawke’s Bay Union is now preparing its ease tor submission to the Appeal Council.
HAWKE’S BAY INTENTION. NAPIER. JtiiV 2(1. The following resolution was carried at a special meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union:— ■‘ Bending a filial decision in regard to the protest between Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay for the Rnnfurly Shield, this Union notifies Taranaki, Mauawlienua and C'anterury Rugby Unions that in the event ol Hawke’s Bay being defeated in any of these games, and the result of the protest being in our favour, the Shield will he forwarded to the Now Zealand Rugby Union with a request that it he handed over to the first successful challenger. Failing the parent body not agreeing to our wishes, the Shield will be retained by the Hawke’s Bay Union.”
