AN ENJOYABLE TRIP
ASHBURTON FARMERS ON "WEST COAST. (Lyttelton Times). 'l’he Mid-Canterbury farmers who visited the West Const last week had a most enjoyable time, and the scene at the Ashburton station on their return on Saturday evening resembled that of the detraining of a happy picnic party after a day’s pleasure. “We cannot say anything about it; it was all.so wonderful—the trip of a lifetime.’’ said Mr A. Horsey (County Chairman) when asked "hat he thought of the week’s holiday. He added that the hospitality extended by the people of "Westland wherever the excursionists went was something to marvel at. They had ■seemed to lay themselves out to make every hour cf the time pleasant, and they had succeeded admirably; in fact they did too much. The trips the visitors were taken by train and by car, showed them the Coast as few people had been able to sec it, and all the time there was excellent weather, the only had spell being on the night they arrived at 'Hokitika. Mr Horsey said everyone of the large party had thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the week, and all "ere load in their praises of what had been done Tor them.
Amid a circle of farmers bidding him farewell in the meantime, stood Dir F. Pawson (Railway business agent), who organised the trip, and when asked how he looked’ upon the visit, he just pointed to the merry throng about him and said: “There’s the answer.” He added that there had not been a hitch throughout the week, and lie thought tbo visit bad been fully justified.
"When the AVe.st Const farmers were in Ashburton recently, they declared that when the Ashburton folk returned the visit they would endeavour to make up for the good time spent in Canterbury. From all accounts they surpassed anything the visitors to the Coast contemplated.
Every person approached bad a good word to say for the work done by Messrs H. C. B. "W if hell (President of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union), J. Carr, ex-president), and F. Pawson (of the Railway Department). They worked unceasingly with the Coast officials in making the trip a success, and they did not spare themselves in anv wav.
