Five thousand spectators witnessed the Seddon Shield match, which was played this afternoon, between Nelson (holders; and AA'e.st Coast. Nelson won tile game by 23 points to 15. The winners gave a line open display in the back division, quite outclassing their opponents, but the forwards were more evenly matched, although Nelson were the mine prominent in the loose.

The first spell ended 9 all, the scores comprising two unconverted tries and a. penalty goal by Nelson, and three penalty goals by tbe AA’e.st Coast. In the second half. Nelson quickly established a lead, their backs'showiug up particularly well anil getting off many pretty movements. For the winners tries were scored by Young (2), Snodgrass, Mahoney. AYallaec and Mouagalte, and a penalty goal by Snodgrass.

For the losers three penalty goals were kicked liv AYariies and tries were

scored by Jamieson and Bannister. The game was a very friendly one, although there were quite a number of minor casualties.
