A Toronto message states Canadian farmers taxes have been lessened considerably through thirty American tourists crossing the harder to procure beer wines and other liquor. It *s announced Ontario Provincial Legislature will have balanced its budget for the first time in twenty years, with the prospect of tax reductoiis amounting t i two million dollars. The Province of Ontario, under prohibition, appeared to be saturated with illicit liquor from bootleggers and blind pegs. The rale of arrests in dry Ontario was formerly higher than in the neighbouring wet Quebec. Now. with the province wet, legal .sides are expected to run about thirty millions, comput'd with an estimated 35 millions under the former illiiit bootlegging.

Shiroshi Xasu. a Japanese representative, told the Institute of Pacific Relations that the population and food supply problem concerned every country. It was found to impair the world’s peaceful progress, while artificial harriers made the difficulties worse. Stephen Duggan, of the American Delegation, urged more support ror travelling students going from one university to another. He expressed tin l belief that students of the United States should turn towards the Orient nations. Mr Davis, of the Radio Corporation ol America, predicted international j broadcasting stations. He said a station now was being built in the Philippines, and if successful ; would aflord reasonably cheap communication with the Far East, and would also reduce the chances of war.
