ARGENTINE RANCHERS.
The New Zealand .Meat Producers’ Board has received the following letter from its South American representative, dated April doth. 1027 : “Fat cattle have lately been meeting a better trade at slightly higher figures, and it is just passible that prices will he considerably higher as the winter advances and the supply becomes more limited, as the winter prospects for pastures have seldom, if ever, been worse at the present time—the commencement of winter. It was generally considered that the late rains would he beneficial, hut apparently they have, done little towards improving the shortage of feed generally all over the country. “The state of the livestock business here at present is none too satisfactory, and several failures for considerable sums have lately taken place, one just announced for nearly fourteen million pesos with loss than eight million to meet his liabilities, and there is likely to he more in trouble before the livestock trade gets on a sound basis. “ I he insistence of the Freezing C’ nnpaTiics on only accepting light-weight, well finished cattle, and excluding all animals likely to yield over a certain' weight, caused heavy losses to holders ot heavy steers, while store cattle have generally been selling very deni- in relation to the price obtained for prime fat young steers.”
