The liall of the seas m is to take place in the Memorial Hall, Kumara on Tuesday. August 2nd. For this event complete arrangements are now in hand. The music will lie supplied by Ross’ Orchestra. The floor will lie iu first class condition and tin excellent supper will he prepared.
The Fire Brigade Rail in tile Soldiers’ Hall last evening attracted a very large attendance, and proved a very enjoyable gathering. The floor was in fine order, Ross’s Orchestra supplied the best oT music, anti a capital supper was provided by Mrs Preston and her assistants. Dancing went with a swing anil the large assemblage appeared to have a very pleasant time.

At a meeting of Directors of the Westland Dairy Company a vote oT thanks and appreciation was carried unanimously in Mr 11. T. Parry for Ills valuable assistance rendered on beliali of tiie district to the visiting farmers. From the speakers remarks at the meeting and from others Mr Parry seems to have carried out Ids arduous duties with much credit, and appears to have a very practical knowledge of nrganisa t ion.

There was an unusual procedure of the meeting of the Westland Land p,nard yesterday alternoon. when one of the applications were being dealt with. There was a motion and also an amendment. The Chairman said he would put the motion, and when objection wa.-. made to this course and not the amendment being put the Chairman reiterated his intention put the motion, and stating he voted for it. declared the motion carried. The trover and set under of the amendment recognising they were m a minority made no further protest. Regarding the use by bilkers el iodised salt, in place of e minion salt, in Ihe manufacture of broad. I)r f. Fletcher Telford. Medical Officer of Health, told a. reporter that the use by bakers of iodised salt is not cronpuls wy, hut optional. 'I he baker, flout a commercial point ol view, is going to advertise the tael that lie is using iodised salt, which adds to the cost of making the bread, in order to get extra sale to those people who fancy this kind of bread. In view of this. Dr Telford considered that it was not compulsory to iiuv bread in the preparation, of which iodised salt has been used.

Miss Potts presided, the special occasion lveing a farewell to Mrs .1. H. Smith, of Hamilton Street, who is shortly leaving for Christchurch with her husband and family. Afternoon tea was handed round and then Miss Potts on fchalf of the assemblage presented Mrs Smith with a handsome (hair, expressing their regret at her coming departure and good wishes for the future. Airs Smith suitably responded. thanking them very heartily for their kind gift and good wishes. Auhl Lang Syne brought a very pleasant gathering to a conclusion.
