Hon Noswortby laid on the table papers relating to his recent visit to Samoa, whereupon a debate was initiated hy the Leader of the Opposition, in which the question of deportations without trial were condemned hy a number of speakers. Government contended those were necessary to preserve the authority of i he Administration. During the discussion the Prime Minister announced the Samoa. Bill " ill he introduced, on which the whole question of the Samoan situation could he discussed. At the evening sitting the following Bills were introduced by Governor's Message—Lands for Settlement Amendment : Child Welfare Amendment: Shops and Offices Amendment : Noxious Weeds Amendment : Horticultural Diploma Bill; inspection of Alachi. cry Amendment: Samoa Bill. These Bills were read a first time. The Legislature Amendment Bill was read a second time on the motion of Hon McLeod after a lengthy debate, and the House rose at midnight till 2.30 p.m.
