On a wicket by no means easy, the earlier New Zealand batsmen with the exception of Blunt failed to get going, and it was left to him to swing the game in New Zealand’s favour. Once the home total was passed they played a forcing game and delighted the small crowd by their vigorous batting. At the tea adjournment the score had reached 329. Alills then being 57 and Allcott GO. Up to this Allcott had scored much faster than his partner. but on resuming both kept up an even rate of scoring and passed the century practically together. Lowry then declared the innings at 7 for 4*21. Alills and Allcott put on 190. the former being 21 hours for bis unfinished 104 and the latter 100 minutes for 102 also unfinished. Alills hit ten fours and Allcott thirteen. Civil Service had a. few minutes batting and scored 28 without loss before stumps were drawn for the day.
