GOLFING.

GOLF (TIA.AI PION. JONES WINS AGAIN. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, July 16. There was one oi the most wonderful scenes of enthusiasm ever witnessed on any golf course in the world when Bobby Jones lulled a putt that made him the British gulf champion. No amateur ever before has won this championship two years in succession, while it is twenty years since the feat was performed by the. professional, James Braid. Moreover, Jones heat the record for the championship of 291, by six strokes. . Twelve thousand spectators fought, for places around the green and Jones had to force his way through, while directly he had holed, the people swept in and obliterated the turf. Jones looked ill vain for an avenue of escape. There was none. He was lifted on to men's shoulders, till eventually lie was rescued by the police. The outstanding feature cf his game was unquestionably his driving, which was stupenduous, an average of 275 yards being maintained throughout the round, and the straightness of his shots was ideal, and some of his shots were prodigious. One, at the second hole, which measures 401 yards, was so long that it only required a spade mashic for the approach shot. The golf leaders are:—Jones 213, Robson 217, Boomer and .Kirkwood 219. E. R. Whitcombo and Allis 220. Whitcombo and Holland 221, Cotton 222. Kirkwood might have beaten Boomer if ho hadn’t poked jerkily at tour short putts. The final scores were: Jones 285, Boomer and Robson 291, K. R Mbitcombo and Kirkwood 293, C. A. Whitcombe 296. Havers and Hudson 297, Cotton 295, Herd 300, Barnes 30], C'onipson 302, Braid, Ray and Tweddell each 306. Tolley and Harris 307. Nettlefield and Seymour (last) 318.
