Kiieouraging reports continue to come in of wide inieresl in the forthcoming Competitions, and the entries give promise of being far in excess of those received last year. Many of the items in .which there was no competition last year arc being entered for and the day and evening sessions will consequently he more varied and interesting. and will undoubtedly draw large attendances of the general public. A novelty item, proposed for inclusion in the programme is a mouth organ solo, and good trophies have been offered if competitors will come forward. This item has proved very successful and nopular in other centres, and provided there is sufficient interest displayed the Committee will be glad to add it to the programme. Season tickets and entry forms will be available from the Secretary and members of the Committee during the coming week.

A case was called in the Magistrate s Court, Christchurch, on Thursday morning before Mr H. A. Young. S.M., in which a city business man sued a northern resident. Defendant had written, to the clerk of the Court, giving notice of intention to defend, but no appearance was made in Court by defendant or on defendant’s behalf. Mr Sim. wlm appeared for the plaintiff company, then read a letter, which the firm had received from the defendant. The letter stated that defendant was unable to journey down to defend the case, or to have evidence taken in the nearest. Court to her residence, on account of lack of funds.
