ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, July 14. The yardings of stock at Addington yesterday were not particularly heavy. There was, however, a fairly big entry of fat cattle, 550 head being penned. Well finished cattle sold at a decided improvement on late rates, but the inferior stuff was, as usual, difficult to quit. The sale of fat sheep opened well, but later the demand slackened. Prime heavy wethers sold at practically late rates throughout, hut for most other classes lower prices ruled. There was a bettor tone about the store sheep
sale than has been the case for some time, and the general tendency was for prices to improve all round. A small yarding of fat lambs met a very keen demand, and prices were even better than the improved ones of last week. Store cattle, especially forward sorts, sold well, but dairy cattle were not in much demand and prices were about the same as a week ago. Ivillnbi'e venters, which were in short supply, showed another improvement. Eat pigs, especially haconers, were somewhat cheaper than last week, hut prices for store pigs were about the same as those of a week ago. Fat Cattle.—Prices a 1001 b were:— Good prime beef 35s fid to 37s fill, heavy-weight 32s fid to 31s fid, medium quality 30s to 33s fid, medium quality heifer and good cow beef 2Ss fid to 31s fid, and rough 21s to 255.
Valuc. s were:—Extra prime heavy bullocks .ClB to Cl 92s fid. Prime heavy steers, £ls 15s to £l7 15s, Prime medium-weight steers, £l3 to CIS ss. Ordinary quality steers, £9 to £l2 10s. Rough steers, £(> to £8 15s. Extra prime heifers, to £l4 17s fid. Ordinary heifers, £6 Iss to £8 15s. Light heifers. C-l 15s to £fi 10s. Extra prime cows, to £l3 17s fid. Prime cows, £7 15s to C 9 15s. Ordinary cows, £4 15s to £7 ss. Aged cows, £3 10s to £4 10s. Store Cattle.—The demand was good, graziers operating for any forward sorts- Values were:—Two and three-year-old steers £5 10s to £fi 15s, best cows £3 15s to £5, medium cows £2 10s to £3 10s, old cows £1 5s to £2. Hulls Cl to £(> 10s. Dairy Cattle, —Good second, third and fourth cal vers C 7 to £O, others £4 10s to £(> 10s, springing heifers £3 to L’fi 10s, old cows in profit Cl 10s to C2 10s.
Veai'ers. —Values were:—Twelve to eighteen months calves to £7 10s, good venters, £5 5s to Cfi ss. medium vealor s £3 10s to L I 15s, others 10s to 30s.
Fat Sheep.—At the start of the sale prices were about equal to late rates, but later on there was an easing in the demand. This easing was most noticeable in the case of the lighter wethers. Prime heavy wethers, suitable for hutchers sold fairly well up to late rates throughout. Values were:—
Extra prime wethers 38s to 4fis 4(1, prime wethers 33s to 375, medium wethers 28s to 32s fid, light wethers 25s !)d to 27s !)<l ; extra prime ewes 32s fid to 39s lOd, prime ewes 27s to 325, medium ewes 22s fid to 26s fid, light ewes 17s fid to 325, aged ewes lls fid to 17s.
Km Lambs.—Values were Extra prime lambs Ms (id to 38s lOd, prime, lambs 30s to 335, medium lambs 26s (id to 29s (id light lambs 23s (id to 2(is. store lambs 20s to 235. v Store Sheep.—Values were:—Good half-bred ewe hoggets 25s 9d to 29s (id, cross-bred ewe hoggets 21s 7d to 2?s. cross-bred wether hoggets 15s 9(1 to I6s. four, six and eight-toothed cross-bred owes 33s 3d, sound-mouthed half-bred ewes 26s to 26s 6(1, four and five-vear-old three-quarter bred ewes 27s 2d, failing-mouthed cross-bred ewes, 10s 9d to 21s lOd, aged cross-bred ewes 11s Kid to Ms lid. four, six and eighttoothed half-bred wethers, 25s 3d to 26s 9d, two and four-toothed half-bred wethers 25s 3d to 26s 9d. two and fourloot her half-bred wethers 25s 3d, four, six and eight-toothed cross-bred wethers 22s to 25s (id. Pigs .—There was a small entry of baconers and a good-sized one of porlcers The sale was not very bright, and prices, if anything, were easier than last week. Values were Choppers €3 IPs to £5 18s (id, light baconers £3 5s to £3 12s 6d, heavy baconers 63 15s to £l. extra heavy baconers to VI 12s (id: average prices per lb 5d to (id. Light porkers 38s to 17s Oil. heavy porkers 50s to 60s; average price per lb 7d to Sd. In the store pig section there was om'v a medium entry, and the greater proportion was small to medium stores. Few wcaners were yarded. Values showed little change from those of last week. Values were :—Wenuers to 20s, slips 21s to 255, medium stores 27s 6(1 to 30s (id. large stores 31s (id to 395, sows in pig to ,C 0 15s.
