HOKITIKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
MONDAY, JULY 4th. The Committee met at 7 p.m. Present—Rev. J. W. Hayward (Chairman), Messrs AY. E. Richards, AY. Clarke, AA r . H. Shannon, 11. R. Sweney. R. J. Redder, F. Orr and J. Conning (lion, sec.). An apology was made tor Mr Coulson’x absence. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Canterbury Education Hoard stating the foreman at G'rcymoutli had been directed to give attention to re-, pairs to the Winds asked for. —Received. From Department of Health. AA ellington. forwarding copy ol regulations dealing with dental clinics.— Received. After discussion Mr Redder moved that the Government he complimented on the work of the dental clinic and that they be urged to continue the work and to extend it as much as possible. Seconded by Mr Shannon and carried.
The report of Inspector lnvin on his recent inspection was read and received; the Rector and sialf to he congratulated on the satisfactory nature ol the report.
The A’isiting Committee (Messrs Sweney and Clarke) reported on conditions at the school as satisfactory.— Received.
The Grounds Committee reported that the tender of J. C'oyle had been accepted for supply of sand at Is TUI per load.—Received and approved.
The Rector (Air E. Partridge) reported the school was at present sulfering front pupils having severe colds. The attendance for the quarter ended .’lOtli June was primary 1178.1. secondary 85.2. The average number required to keep up the present status is 281. Miss Bruce, assistant, had been notified of transfer, but oil representations being made, the order was cancelled. The fuel fund appeal had been made and ilie result would he announced at next meeting. Iho supply of dual desks had been completed, and the school now had all new furniture. Mr Conning reported having waited on the Hokitika High School Hoard with Mr Partridge ill connection with various mutters. Accounts as submitted were par ed for payment.
Messrs .Shannon and Richards were appointed visitors lor the month and the meeting terminated at 8.15 p.m.
