Discussing the topic of Party funds in lii.s speech in the House, the member for Wanganui (Mr Veitc-h) said he did not believe in the publication of names of contributors to Party funds because often sums were contributed f/om altruistic motives, and the contributors did not want their names published. Mr 11. E. Holland: The Labour Party published the names of contributors to their funds. Mr Witch: Yes. and some of them were very hard to pronounce. (General la lighter). Asked about the fundof the new Liberal Party. Mr J’eitch replied: “Well. it. won’t take me longto tell you about my Party fund. lam rich in the goodwill of my fellow citizens, but I am not rich in hank credit.” Later, Mr Veiteli, when reading an advertisement about Sir James Parr’s last election, had the laugh against himself. Mr Veiteli read the amount that had been expended on housing in the Eden electorate. An lion, member asked Mr I eiteli to tell them the period over which the expenditure took place.
