The West Coast fanners’ tour to Canterbury proved one of the most successful out ings possible---I nun every point of view. The party was a very representative one including all parts of tile Coast, and was received most cordially at all points. Here a word of praise must he said-for the organisation of the trip—it was excellent. The scope and variety presented were admirably arranged, and the fullest use was made of the available time. The general effect of the tour should l>o far reaching. The interchange of visits of this nature is going to bring about a much closer interest between the East- and West Coasts, tending largely for the increase of tradmg relations also. Such a consummation was to he expected when the two Coasts were linked by railway, and the fruition of the ideal is a confirmation of the best hopes. There is no doubt much to he learned by these participating in these visits. To begin with, we know far too little about our own country—what it is and what it tan produce. This applies alike to primary and secondary industries. Coasters who were in Canterbury last week had their eyes opened in regard to New Zealand manufacturing achievements, and this realisation must he good for Dominion trade. So much depends upon local reciprocity nowadays that the fullest education as to what New Ze-tumd has !'<<'■ sale is nocessarv. These

reciprocal trips are a special aid in that direction and deserve the fullest encouragement front all.
