A meeting of tlie local Radio Club passed a. resolution on lines of those adopted hv other Clubs protesting against Hie quality of the programmes by the Radio Broadcasting Coy. and suggesting longer hours, fewer silent nights and alteration of the wave lengths of tlio Dominion stations .so as not- to clash with Australian stations. It regrets loss to the service of Prentice, and urging Government to control it as the company fails to give an adequate service.

Mr Cutten, S.M., in bis reserved decision dealing with action by the City Council against tlie community bus owners finds that the owners were attempting to evade the provisions of the Motor Omnibus Traffic. Fines aggregating £27 were imposed by Magistrate. .Free on Francis C. Dempsey on charges of driving a ear in a. negligent manner, and failing to notify ail accident when so driving without a license. Tho defendant was also prohibited from getting a license for 12 months. The charges arose out of a ear and motor cycle collision one evening several weeks ago at the corner of a road near Konini, as a result of which, a youth, Don Reid, a cyclist, had bis leg amputated. Medical evidence was given to flic effect that Dempsey had been in bad health for some time.
CAUGHT iN TIME. AUCKLAND. June 29. It was fortunate for Arthur Isaac Martin, aged 51, that a constable, going on night duty at Devonport observed him, as be might have boon found floating in the harbour. He admitted that he had spent his~last penny on drink to gain courage to commit suicide. He was remanded for a week on a vagrancy charge.
A BIG BLAZE. BLENHEIM. June 29. A spectacular fire occurred at 1.30 this morning when a, large produce store filled with chaff .barley, cowgrass and sundries insured for £4OOO in tho Commercial Union was totally destroyed. The building was a large one of corrugated iron owned by the Wnira.u River Board and insured for £1750 also in the Commercial Union, was occupied by Mrs A. At. Corrv, produce merchant. The occupiers estimate their loss- at two thousand. The origin is a mystery.
GAMING HOUSE FINES. AUCKLAND. June 29. At the Police Court, Fong Hung. All Wing and All Leo were each fined £SO for keeping a common gmiiig house, and for assisting in the management each £SO. Several others found on the premises were fined £2 each. The charges against some who claimed to be there on legitimate business were dismissed. The total fines in connection with Grey Street thus totalled just on £2OO.
ON PROBATION. AUCKLAND, June 29. Samuel Stewart Shape, 42, a clerk of the City Council’s Traffic Department charged with the theft of £33 came up for sentence. Restitution had been made and accused’s character otherwise was reputed ' good. He was placed on probation for two years.
