The death took place at Greymouth on Saturday of Mr Sarah Ann Dunn, aged till years. Deceased was a nati\o of London. Her husband, a wellknown resident of llrunncr, predeceased her in IMS. The deceased had been ailing for the last six months so that the end was not altogether unexpected. He leaves a widow, the only daughter of the late Mr Hugh McKeevcr, a well-known chemist in the early days of Hokitika, and three chiildien, besides his three brothers at Kiniu. and a sister (Mrs .Robertson of Wellington) to mourn the loss of an exceedingly devoted and hind husband, father and brother; nisi many friends both in Westland and 'Wellington. Mrs Keenan is an ex-member of the nursing staff of the 'Westland Hospital.

According to a special message from Dunedin a statement has been made by a buyer of one of the largest Dunedin retail butchery firms, that there is a possibility of a fairly substantial rise in the price of meat in the near future. This is due to the fact that Canterbury butchers will he forced to compete at liurnside, owing to a shortage of supplies in their own district. Another butcher here was of opinion that beef would he affected more than mutton, and he predicted that beef would rise to about 50s per 100 lb. At the last liurnside sale values ranged from 33 s to 365. If the butcher is correct in his surmise, there will lie an increase of a penny per lb, and if there is a corresponding increase in the price of mutton tlie consumer must lie hit fairly ha rd.

A well attended meeting of the Poultry Club was held on Wednesday evening. The services of Mr Daere, of Christchurch, have been secured to act as judge at the forthcoming Show, which promises to he a distinct success. The schedule, which is a lengthy one, will he in the printers hands in tihe course of a day or so. and should attract exhibitors from far and near.
