The death occurred at the Lewisham Hospital on Tuesday evening of thc Hev. Mother Mary Joseph Davies at the age of Jo years. The late Reverend Mother, who had been an invai'id for the past twelve months, was a member of an old Lyttelton family. She had been in the Lyttelton Convent for about 3d years, having been Reverend Mother for the past three years. She possessed a very kindly disposition, and as a teacher of exceptional ability she will he remembered with aflection by ilie large number of pupil who passed through her hands during her residence at the convent. The late .Rev. Mother was a daughter of the late John Davies, tailor, who was in business at Ross. Kuinara, and Hokitika, and afterwards held an appointment at Lyttelton. A very complete programme* lias hoon arranged for the visit of the West Coast farmers to Ashburton next week. It is expected that there will he over 200 visitors. The itinerary is as follows:—On Monday the party will arrive by train at 5.32 p.iil. and will he met hy representatives of the Mid-Canterbury Farmers’ Union, A., and I’. Association, and Agricultural Department, and attend a picture theatre in the evening. On Tuesday, at I) n.m., there will he a Mayoral reception at the Municipal Chambers, and at 9.30 a.m. the party will leave l.y car for Longheach Instate, where morning tea will he provided, after which a return will he made to Ashburton by a different route, to enable the visitors to see the country. At 1.30 p.m. the party will depart by cars from the A. and I*. Rooms for the Springfield Estate, where the visitors will he shown an up-to-date chaff-cutting plant and general farm work in operation. At 2.15 p.m. they will depart for Afethvon for afternoon tea. and will inspect Mr R. J. Lowe' stud stock, and all stock on the property of Mr .). MeAnulty. At 4 p.m. they will leave Methven for Ashburton by a new route passing through the wheat lands; and at 7.45 p.m. a social will bo held in St. Andrew’s Hall, where an address will be given interspersed with musical items. On Wednesday, at 7.51) a.m.. the party will depart by train for Christchurch.
