(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, June 23.
The future marketing policy of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Com_ puny was discussed this evening by the Managing Director, Air AA’illiam Goodfellow. The new policy will he substantially that practised by the Company prior to control, with amendments such as may be necessary to permit other Co-operative Dairy Companies to join with it in the group marketing of their products. A new Company will bo formed to include the New Zealand and other Companies. The latter will not he required to take up shares in the new organisation, whose manager will be Mr J. B. AAVight, a present manager in London for tlio New Zealand Dairy Produce Board. Afr Goodfellow said that, as absolute control had failed, some alternative was required to give a. lend to the London market to enable the Company to obtain the maximum prices. Ho sffMl believed that 1 national control, conducted .on sound lines, was an ideal scheme, but as it had failed owing to a lack of unanimity within the industry, he considered a voluntary marketing organisation. which would include the output of a number of factories, would be the next best thing. The Directors had, therefore, formulated proposals to enable other Co-operative Dairy Companies to obtain: without extra cost, many of the advantages of association with a Group Marketing Company. The marketing policy of the New Zealand Company would be adopted, but it would be altered somewhat to enable all the factories joining in the scheme lo receive equal returns for produce of similar quality. The new Marketing Company would |,o prepared to sell c.i.f. nr i.0.b., nd would also supervise consignments on behalf of Co-operative Dairy Companies. Tt was anticipated that the large, manlier of Dairy Companies would avail themselves of the offer to join. This would enable the Marketing Company to obtain control ol a very substantial portion of the total butter exported from the Dominion as well as a fair percentage of the cheese exports. The new concern would aim to do the real work which tht Dairy Produce Board set out lo accomplish.
