A number of fights have been the outiome of a lend lasting for the past four iiiniiilis. in which a number of people have been badly slashed with razors, and have refused to give any information to the police, or to identify their a-sailants. The fetid (iilminated in the early hours if ibis morning with the murder of Norman Brtiliu, who was shot lire times, in the slum area near Dnrlinglnirst, and died in the hospital without giving the police any information which would lead to the arrest of Ids murderer or murderers.
Although la; wa.s fully conscious when taken to the hospital, Bruliu refused to make any statement, and the police are greatly hampered in their investigations. It. is known, however, that there has lately been a big influx of Alelbourne criminals to Sydney. and that they have "been in the limbit of holding up the drug traffickers and demanding money, slashing the drug-vendors with razors if money is refused.
The drug traffickers, to protect themselves, carry revolvers, and the present- murder is believed to ho the out come of this underworld vendetta.

A,t a meeting of the executive of the Primary Producers’ Union, the question of shipments of New Zealand butter again occupied attention. A further effort is to he made to ascertain ,what firms are responsible for its importation and the Government is to be asked to appoint an inspector to see that no New Zealand butter is sold in Australian boxes or wrappers, in hulk or ill prints.

The City Council approved of the issue of £250.000 carrying five and three-quarters per cent, interest for the first instalment of a million loan fo rthe purpose of improving Sydney streets. An increase in the price of footwear was foreshadowed at a meeting of the Leather Manufacturers’ Association which decided that owing to the recent sharp advance in the price of hides, an immediate substantial advance in the prices of whole leathers was imperative. It was stated during the past couple of months that values of a large -proportion of hides had increased fully 50 per cent, as the result of a strong overseas demand, particulnrlv from America.
A PRISON FARM. (Received this dav at 9.0 a.m.) PERTH. June 24. The Government are establishing a prison farm and afforestation depot on an area of 7500 acres, of which five thousand will be utilised for vine afforestation and the balnnce devoted to sheep raising, dairying, apple
and potato growing. Selected prisoners only will be sent to the farm, those convicted of graver crimes being excluded.
A DARING ROBBERY. BRISBANE, June 24. A most daringly planned and executed robbery took place at Hansons London watch shop in the centre of the city, which at the time was brilliantly lighted, and jewellery taken valued at £3OOB. The manageress left the shop as usual securely locked at 5.30 in the evening and took the keys home. She placed them on a table, and half an hour later discovered they had mysteriously disappeared and she telephoned the police, who rushed to Hansons, only to find thieves had preceded them and got away with a selection of the most valuable jewellery.
