New Zealand won by an innings and three runs. The attendance was two thousand. The County made an excellent start and at one time had lost only three wickets for more than 170 runs. Merritt, who had been knocked about extensively ,and Bi'unt then bad a run of success till Milne, the last man joined Pritchard. A determined defence enabled the latter to reach bis century and when Milne was bowled by Cunningham lie had reached 103, made in two hours and containing 17 fours. Following on 201 behind. Pritchard again played well for a time and received good help from Bruce. At the tea adjournment only two wickets were down for 79. but the succeeding batsmen, though a number reached double figures, could not master Blunt and Merritt’s slows. Hetlierton and Milne, the last two men. made gallant efforts to avoid an innings defeat and materially added to the score but the former was caught just in time to enable New Zealand to claim a victory by a innings and three. The New Zealanders fielded splendidly, particularly Dempster and Oliver.
