CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the .Canterbury Education Board was held 011 Friday when there were present : Messrs W. P. Spencer (chairman), W. A. Banks. ,J. Maze, G. \V. Annitage, \Y. IT. Winsor, E. H. Andrews, AY. Johnson, R, Wild, T. Hughes, C. S. Thompson and J. G. Gow.

Appointments confirmed included:— Arahura Road, Miss M. McConnell, Assistant, mistress; Hokitika, Miss M. Goad, substitute assistant; Ruafjapu, Miss C. L. Nielson, assistant mistress; Runanga, Mr E. J. Smith, assistant mistress.

It was resolvod to state, in reply to the Arahura Road Committee’s protest against {having no choice in appointment of teachers, that the hoard itstll had no option under the regulations. The Barry town Committee’s request for the appointment of a male teacher was hold over for consideration when selection was being made. It wa.s resolved to advise ihe R.uiinrtgn Committee that the board could not agree to its request to re-advertise the position of assistant master. Designations accepted included— Xgahere, Miss M. E. Wilson, assistant mistress; llunanga, Air M. McDonough, assistant, (to AMoolston).

It. wits resolved to send an urgent telegram to the Department, asking it to advise its decision regarding consolidation of schools in the Ivokatahi district.

The secretary, Mr Kirk, stated that, regarding Kolia ta hi, the Department had advised that it could not approve of consolidation.

011 the recommendation of Messrs Biguell and Wild it was resolved to apply to the Department for a grant for the erection of an additional room when tlie Dobson School qualifies for an additional teacher. I'rom present indications another teacher will probably be required in about six months’ time.
