It is a little odd that the politicians of Great Britain should be thinking of experimenting with compulsory arbitration in industrial disputes, just at the time when New Zealand, after JO years’ experience of it, is beginning to think that it has been a mistake. The matter was raised during the last Committee sitting on the Trade Unions Bill, when a Conservative member proposed a new clause making it illegal to declare a strike or a lock-out in an essential industry prior to or during the reference of the dispute to a conciliation tribunal. —Exchange.
