ARAPUNI STRIKE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 16. The Arapnni strike was called off yesterday, the local executive and men ignoring the order. Seeing there is little likelihood of the work being resumed this week, Mr Cooke. National Secretary of the Union, and others, have been summoned liv.in Wcllington to a meeting on Saturday. HAMILTON, June 16. Hopes are held out that the Arapnni strike would he settled on Saturday, though the situation is unchanged at present. There was consternation in the camp last night when a wire arrived from Mr Cook, General Secretary of the Now Zealand Workers’ Union, ordering Hie men to resume work immediately, in the understanding that the Company would grant a conference after work had been recommenced. The New .Zealand AA'orkors’ Union, proceeded, the message would not hold itself responsible unless the men obeyed orders.

An urgent meeting of the Strike Executive was held, and it was decided to ignore the telegram and adhere to tlie decision not to resume until a coil fore lice had boon he'd. This proposal is not acceptable to the Company.

An important meeting .t ill lie held at the works on Saturday morning. There are unlikely to bo any developments meantime. Government intervention is possible if an agreement is not reached. The delay in the work is a serious matter to the Company.
