N'.Z. LEAGUE PLAYERS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND. June 15. Definite instructions to proceed to England to fulfil the terms of their contract with AVignn Club. England, were received by the two Auckland League football players, L. Brown and 11. Davidson, to-day. Brown received a cablegram which read as follows: “ Have booked passages Davidson and self by Coi'intliic, leaving Wellington .Tune 20. Inform Mason.—Taylor. AVigan.” This is the first intimation that ALison had been approached, hut it was known AVigan Club was keen to secure his services while in England. Mason is at present playing for Hornby Club in Christchurch. He is 2” years of age. and weighs well over 15 stone. AVliile in England Mason was considered one of the finest forwards among the New Zealand pack. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union tonight when members agreed that although they were opposed to the granting of transfers as a matter ot principle, yet, seeing the English League had removed the residential qualification, it was only fitting that the services the players had rendered to the League code in Auckland should he recognised.

ft was decided to await the protest of New Zealand League, and, in the meantime, to arrange for a presentation to Brown and Davidson.

COAST BEAT CANADA. j GREY MOUTH, .Tune 16. The West Coast Soccer representatives made history yesterday when they inflicted on the redoubtable Canadian team the first defeat of their tour, by one goal to nil, this being hut th.o second goal recorded against the visitors. There was an attendance of more than a couple of thousand. The occasion was therefore one for a good advertisement on the West Coast for the Soccer game. The gate takings were £l4l. From all parts of the Grey district canto spectators, and. as the game proceeded, the cheering showed keen interest. The only score cam' just before half time. The panic was fast and well contested throughout.
