MARIETTE. PRINCESS THEATRE. TO-NIGHT. To-night at the Princess Theatre the musical comedy “Mariette” will be presented. Commenting on the peri'ormnnee at Greymouth last week the Grey “Star” says:—The second performance of the musical comedy “Marietto” drew a large attendance of patrons to the Opera. House last evening. As was anticipated the performers displayed a more marked degree of perfection in making their second appearance before the public. There was a complete absence of nervousness and the show went with a- swing from curtain to curtain. Mr W. Graeme-Holder again delighted the audience with his droll sayings as a gay young man, fond of “spots”—and the ladies; while the comedy side was also well taken by Mr Eric V. Conway as Jeeves, the butler, and later in a characterisation resembling “Old Bill” at the front. Air Norman Jones ns Lieut. Bruce Hardy and Miss Marvel "Warlies as Patricia Keene, who play opposite each other portrayed their respective roles with commendable success. “Mariette” was again characterised by Miss Mario Parfitt, with due regard to the tempermnnet of the vivacious little French girl, who upsets the love affairs of everbody. The little danseuse, Miss Ela Robertson, gave another beautiful exhibition of her art in the final scene—the Uni Masque at the Chateau Fromlcleiu, Paris, to which the gay dresses of the members of the cast in the rear, formed a delightful background. The second act depicting a scene at the rear of the front line, in which comedy is very strong, again produced much hearty laughter. The effects in this act, were eery realistic, without being extreme to a degree- likely to cause discomfort. The artistic dressing, especially that of the ballets was the subject of much favourable comment. The Orchestra under the ablo conductorship of Air A. A. Rouse, largely contributed towards the success of the Show, as on the previous evening.
