OVERSEER MtLLNER’S REPORT.
I have the honour to report upon tha progress ol work during the month of May.
NORTHERN RIDING MAINTENANCE.
One Mile Road and a portion of Arahura Valley Rond were graded with the large road grader, to remove the outer shoulders to allow drainage to run off during wet weather. A portion of Kumara Beach Bond was graded and had holes repaired and watertables cleaned on the hillside. Ail approach turnout was constructed at Kutnara Junction to meet Mr Pugh’s requirements. Roadman Oklerog attended to clearing and cleaning of drain on Humphreys Road, clearing gorse and blackberry from the abutments of Painter’s Creek Bridges, Arahura Valley Road and Blue SpurAralmra Road, also breaking down a supply of gravel in Two Aide pit in readiness for repairs to Arahura Valley Road. CENTRA I, RIDING.
Station Road. The contractors for this work are making fair progress, blit wet weather lias delayed the metalling a good deal. To date the cleaning ”5 chains of formation. 7 chains of metalling have been completed. Upper Kokatalii Road "Widening. This work was completed early in the month and was regraded and rolled with the ten ton roller, resulting in a hard smooth surface free from ruts, and greatly appreciated by the travelling public. McArthur Road Drainage. The con. tractors signed for this work but had not progressed sufficiently to allow a progress payment to be rendered at the end of the month.
.Kanieri River Bridge Renewal. Fake Kanieri Bond. The working party under the direction of the Bridge Foreman completed all the specified re. pairs and lvnowals in this structure, the work being principally confined to the renewal of faulty stringers, transoincs and decking.
Doughboy Road Drainage. County Vote. This work is in band and a satisfactory job is being made ol (lie new drain at a very reasonable rest. Scddon's Terrace Track ‘Widening, is being continued by day labour, and will be completed the specified distance about June 22nd. MAINTENANCE.
’Repairs were effected by metalling motor worn boles and ruts oil l pper Kokatalii, Koiterangi, Lower Kokatahi. Soddon’s Terrace and Adair's Bonds, Watertables were cleaned <>n Soddon’s Terrace. Adair’s. HokitikaTlau Flan, and Lake Kanieri Roads. Tucker Flat Rond was cleared of gorse and other growth, and slips removed from ihc drainage outlet TfokitikaFfau Hau and Lake Kanieri Road. Upper Kokatalii and portions of Bladicr's and Lower Kokatalii Roads acre graded with the large road grader. A turnout was levelled with the grader at the Golf Links in readiness for met. ailing as circumstances permit, and a concrete pipe drain was constructed on Soddon’s Terrace Road. The ten ton roller was operated with beneficial results on Upper and Lower Kokatalii Roads. 'MOTOR. LORRIES. The motor road trucks were kept busily employed, carting gravel and metal for road repairs, concrete pipes for station road and culvert renewals on vTirious roads, tiniltor for AVaimen Crock Bridge and renewals of decking on the Kokatalii Road Bridges,; grading on One Afilo. Araliura \ :i)lox. Ipper and Lower Kokatalii. Bladicr s and Arthurs town Roads. No 2 truck was under repair for two days and had four now tyres fitted at Greynionth on A fay 12th. STONE CRUSHER. The stone crusher was operated during the month and a quantity of metal crushed and placed on the roads. The plant was in good order and gave siitisfiirtorv results. COXCRETF, PTPES.
Concrete pipe construction was continued under the direction of F. Belhy at the pipe yard, Kanieri. SOUTHERN RIDING.
Waitangi South Bank. Tho tfactors are making good progress with this work, to date the clearing, grubbing and forming has been completed a distance of 17 chains. MAINTENANCE. Repairs were effected by the Roadman to Wanganui Flat. La Fontaine and Petersen’s Roads in the InterAYanganui District, and Detour. Richardson. Loan Block Roads and approaches to AYaitangi River for«l oil the line of Scallv Rond in the AAatnroa. district.
