THE IRISH ELECTIONS.

Try telegraph —per truss association.] LONDON, June 11. Tiie incomplete counts in the Free State elections are causing great surprise. since they indicate that the Government will lose one third of its seats. They will lose them chiefly to Air De Valera’s party and the National

Leaguers. ft is believed that a coalition is inevitable.

President Cosgrave and the other Alinist-ers are elected, hut with greatly reduced majorities.

The " Times ’ ’Dublin correspondent says the lieavv polling was the most remarkable feature of the elections, it exceeded 70 per cent,, and in some districts 80, compared with GO in the 1923 elections. Xot many results are expected to he declared before Sunday owing to the tediousness of the counting under proportional representation, especially where a host of candidates are contesting a few seats.

The correspondent considered the hcavly polling was expected to favour the Government, as the Republicans in 1923 polled every available voter, while the majority of the new voters would consist of former I nionists, who hitherto had not participated in the Free State elections. They voted in thousands to keep out the Republicans, fearing their getting a majority, following on Air De Valera’s return from America, equipped with plentiful funds. LOXDOX. June 12.

In the Free State elections the Government has won 10 seats, Xational Leaguers 3, Independents and Labourites 4 each. De Valeraites 7.
