OBITUARY
The death took place yesterday afternoon about 4.45 -o’clock at St. CoInmbkille’s Convent, of Sister Mary Joseph, the first postulant received by the Sisters of Mercy after their advent, to Hokitika. The deceased was the second daughter of the late Mr Joseph Mandl, formerly one of Hokitika’s best-known citizens, and for several terms Mayor of the town, and was Gi? years of ago. She is survived by one brother. Dr Charles Mandl, of Hokitika, and by three sisters, Mrs IT. L. Pickett, of Auckland; Airs T. Coltman, of Wellington; and Afiss Rachel Afaiidl, of Hokitika, who is at present absent on a European tour. Hie late Sister Alary Joseph taught in the Greymouth Convent School in 1883. and also in the Cqnvent Schools of Hokitika. Ross. Kumara and Rimu. The deceased had been suffering for a considerable time past, and her death was not unexpected. She was a very highly esteemed member of her Order, and by the pupils whom she taught during her neriod of 47 years of her religious life. She was beloved for her kindness and helpfulness, her disposition having been a most amiable one. and her passing will be sincerely regretted by hundreds of them now living in various parts of the Dominion. The Rt. Rev. Bishop Brodie and Dr Kennedy, of Christchurch, and all the Catholic Clergy of the district will attend the funeral, which will take place at Hokitika. Very general regret will lie felt for the bereaved in the loss they have sustained.
