THE COMING SESSION

LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS I l ' 01 ?ESI IA D 0 \Vi I') I>. AYELI-IXOTOX, June 7. It is generally expected that the session nl Parliament which will open on June iPlnl will he more interesting than any whieli lias been held in recent years so tar as the Government’s legislative proposals are concerned. The Prime .Minister, in his speech in North Auckland a few weeks ago, gave a slight indication of some of the measures which are to be brought down, but other Ministers have thrown out very few hints during the recess. Whether this has been due to discretion or not, the fact remains that the present recess lias been almost the (piietest on record so far as Ministerial speeches have been concerned. Last session the Government was successful in hewing into legislative shape tlie chief plank of the platlorm on which it went to the country in l!)2o. hut it is expected that amending Pills will constitute a good proportion of the programme for the coming session. In political circles it is thought that the Government may seek to amend the Arbitration Act, particularly in regard to preference to unionists, and the Apprentices Act is likely to he made more workable. Also licensing and gaining matters may he heard ol again, although in private Bill, which the Government will afford full facilities to discuss, may appear. But dairy control and the amendment of the tariff are subjects of paramount interest which probably will he sullicient to overshadow most of the legislative proposals.
