In the first round of the elimination contests between the Australian golf teams to decide which will meet tlie Now Zealand team tor the KirftAA’in clever Cup, Victoria easily disposed of Queensland, without the loss of n game. Victoria then'inet New South AN ales. Each side won two matches, hut N ictoria had an advantage of nine holes and will therefore meet New Zealand in the final.
NVliitton was in great form playing AleLelland. and was four up at the ninth, eventually winning seven up.
Russell and Nigel Smith Had a most strenuous match, the latter winning two up on the last green. The ITendlnn v. Bettington match produced brilliant golf, Bettington prevailing bv one hole. E. G. Schlnpji was much too good Tor Dennett. The results were:— Victoria against Queensland. —AfcLelland heat Clive Boyce. 2 lip; Rutsell beat Doctor Bovee, 12 up: Leadlnm teat Holl 2 up; E. 0. Schlapp heat On mining 1 up. Victoria against New Soutli V alos. - NVliitton defeated McLelland 7 up; Russell lost to Nigel Smith 2 down; Leadlam lost to Bettington 1 down; Schlapp beat Dennett 5 up. To-morrow morning, in the foursomes Horton and Duncan play Whitton and Russell and Ross and Quinn play Leadlam and Schlapp.
