BOXING.
[Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] SYDNEY. June H. The New Zealand boxer. Nelson AioKnight’s light with Austin at Brisbane was a ding-dong go from start to finish. Tho newspapers describe AleKnight as'the toughest fighter seen in Brisbane for many years. Austin is noted as a terrific puncher, and time and lignin he landed hard Mows to the point or body, only to find Me Knight boring in and asking for more. In view of McKnigbt’s inexperience, his impulsiveness would have brought disaster had he been unable to take heavy punishment, because Austen would sinotner until the New Zealander had exhausted himself, ami then make a counter-offensive. Austin brought many stratagems together, and against a man with an ordinary jaw, or midriff he would have been successful.
TROWERN DEFEATS CHAMBERS. AUCKLAND, June 8. Reg. Trowern outpointed Billy Chambers over fifteen rounds at Leichhardt Stadium, Sydney. Trowern won through his superiority at in-fighting. He peppered Chambers with short punches to the body in the many clinches that occurred. The bout was far from spectacular, and Chambers was not impressive. He threw punches for the most part over Trownern's shoulder and left himself open to a vicious attack to the body. Trowern fought a great light. He bluffed Chambers out of his usual style, and had him tied up from the eighth round onwards. Trowern rattled Chambers in the twelfth round with a light to the chin, and from this on the Australian did not seem to have a chance. The decision in Trowern’s favour wn* the only one possible.
PURDY WINS. SYDNEY. June 9,
At the Stadium Purdy (9.101 out pointed Sid Buxton (9.10) in fifteen founds. Purdy had the better of matters from the start and frequently had Buxton badly shaken with straight lefts to the head and body. Buxton’s swings lacked direction and were easily evaded by the New Zealander, who at the conclusion of the bout had a com-, fortahle lead of points and never at any time looked like being beaten, winning practically every round.
