Gale, a local astronomer, states he lias discovered a new comet and gives its position as right ascension, twentv-one hours thirty-eight minutes, declination, south thirty-one degrees thirty-eight minutes. He says it presented a diffused circular mass, condensed near the middle. The comet is visible only, by telescope and is near Theta.

N.S.W. LABOUR SPLIT. SYDNEY, June 9. A split is threatened in the ranks of Mr Mutch’s followers, over the proposals put forward by the Federal executive of the Australian Labour Party, in an attempt to bring the rival factions in New South-Wales together. An influential section of the Mutch party is said to favour the holding of a- unitv conference on July 9th. The other side opposes a conference. Mr Mutch received a letter from Mr Semple of New Zealand Labour Party congratulating him on attaining the leadership. Mr Semple added that Mr Lang and the arch-traitor Willis, were the willing tools of those who wanted to smash 'the labour movement.

The sale is reported of the steamers Port Lincoln and Port M'acQuarrie to R. J. Thomas Company of Anglesey, to be used in future for trading between Britain and South Africa.
