LEAGUE AND LABOUR. GENEVA, June (5. The last few days of the Labour Conference was devoted to consideration of the Directors’ report on last year’s work of the League of Nations’ Labour Office.
The South African Government delegate denounced the attitude of the Labour Office in pushing for the adoption of measures regardless of the subsequent cost to the memliers. He cited an instance in 1925 of the Labour Office requesting the collection of statistics as to the cost of sickness insurance in various countries for the information of the present conference, though the Directors’ new report now contained a passage expressing the opinion that no good purpose would be served bv the collection of such statistics. This has appeared just when the conference Is asked to adopt a convention on the subject. . '
There is a growing feeling that the adoption of the Labour Convention will ultimately entail intolerable burdens. M. Zuzuki, representing Japan at the Workers’ International Labour Conference, outlined the Asiatic Economic situation. He denounced the Communist movement as poisoning the spirit of the workers, and undermining the foundation of the Trade Union movement. He suggested a meeting of the conference in the Far East to combat Communism.
