iAustralia & N.Z. Cable Association.] SYDNEY, June 6. The weather to-day was fine, with just enough wind when play began to make the golf tourney interesting. Flay was for the Royal Sydney Cup at Rose Bay. All the leading Now South AAAales professionals, as well as the New Zealand, ATctoi'ian and Queensland teams competed. At the conclusion of the first round Bowman and Denham. New South Wales, with a nett 74, led the field, with Howard, James, Carnegie Clark, and AV. Clark all close up. Horton (N.Z.) with 75—2—77, was the best of lhe New Zealanders. He went out iu 31. inclusive of a one and a three. Dr Ross (N.Z.) also played well, returning a card of 70—3—79. Iu the afternoon the steadiness of the professionals asserted itself, and AV. Clark and Howard, with 146 —8— 151. tied for first place. Carnegie Clark was only one stroke worse. Horton again played well, but bis feet were troubling him, and be tired over the last bit. finishing with 78— 2—Bo. His nett score of 157 gave him seventh place, it being the best performance of ally of the visitors. Dr Ross was again playing well, and went out in 36, including a seven at the seventh, and he came home in 40. Duncan started well in the morning, doing the outward journey in 36. but he (ould not sustain tlie effort, and finished with 80. He did not improve in the afternoon, returning an 82 gross. Quin (N.Z.) was patchy in the morning, but in the aitenioon played brilliantly coming home, finishing

fitli 79 gross. Macfarlanc (N.Z.) played well in the forenoon for 80. but struck trouble in the afternoon and returned with 87. The AR’ctoi'ians, AA'hitton and Russell. made a hold showing, but found their handicaps too much. The eliminating round of the Australian teams in the Kirk-Windeyere Cup takes place to-morrow. The line form displayed by the New Zealanders since their arrival has made them the most favoured for the International match. Horton and Duncan have become very popular, and have made a large fallowing.
