SEAMAN DROWNED. AUCKLAND, June o

Three able seamen belonging to the schooner .Margaret \Y., were capsized in a dinghy passing Queen’s Wharf on Sunday afternoon. They were. William James Harridine. 21, of .Grimsby, England, who was drowned. James MacDonald, of Barrie. Scotland, who is in the hospital, and Charles Clca.r.v, of England, who was hauled aboard a lorr.v -steamer, little the worse for his immersion. 4 he accident was seen from the fen' - sleamcr Lake Takapuna, from w'lic’i a boat was lowered and lifebuoys wore thrown to the men in the water, one lifebuoy falling within reach of Harridine. MacDonald was almost completely exhausted when picked up bv a boat. He was transferred to a pinnace from the Diomede and sent to tho hospital. Cleary, after getting dry clothing, walked back to his ship.

FIGHT AMONG SEAMEN. AUCKLAND. June 6

A fight between one seaman from the Canadian Pioneer and one from the Canadian Britisher oil Saturday evening ended in a melee in which a dozen sailors from these vessels participated. One of the Pioneer’s crow was liospitailed with cuts on the head and face, apparently from a broken bottle. When the police arrived the men had scattered and no arrests were made.
