LABOUR SPLIT. SYDNEY, June 3,

A conference of Federal members of the Australian Labour Party has been eonv ened by Mr Charlton with a view to arriving at a solution of the split in the party ranks of New South Wales, whit-li it is feared may be extended to the Federal sphere. It resolved that every avenue of conciliation should he explored in order to once more bring about a good understanding of all sections of the movement and to this end appointed a committee representing the Federal executive, to attend meetings of both tlie official and Seale Executives, which are lieing held to-morrow, in order to discuss terms of settlement.

BIRTHDAY HONOURS'. SYDNEY, June 3. Birthday honours announced liy tho Governor-General include : K.B.E. Civil Division, Dr Clubbs, the wellknown Sydney surgeon, and C. G. Waddell, president of the Graziers’ Association, and C.B.E. Civil Division, Dame Nellie Melba.

N.S.W. POLITICS. SYDNEY, June 4. No finality was reached in the negotiations for a settlement of the Labour split, but it is stated an agreement was reached whereby the electors will be asked to cast preference votes iu order of merit for J.a hour in order to avert a Labour debacle. It is announced the family endowment scheme will commence to operate from Ist August and that a new basic wage will be shortly declared on the basis of a man and wife without children.
