He was committed to the Supreme Court-. Wellington, for sentence. A detective said other charges were pending; ui other centres against accused lo which accused’s counsel said he would plead guilty.

Rubinn Mason, of Otaki, sought to recover from Robert Little Mason LI 70 3s 4d, a bala nee allegedly due under a separation deed made in 1924. which gave the custody of one child to plaintiff, defendant agreeing to payor cause to pay his wife CIO Ills Sd each month. It was claimed hy defendant that payments, totalling £l3O. at the rate of £ls a month made hy his employers, should he credited as money paid or caused to he paid hy him. hut it appeared that he had allowed judgment to go hr default against him, when action was brought when he was allegedly five months in arrears. Mr Page said it had been the practice of the company to make payments to the wife in eases of voluntary resignation of employees who had been long in the service. They were, however, entirety gratuitous. By allowing judgment to go against him. defendant had concluded the matter in favour of plaintiff. for whom judgment for the full amount was given.

A steward was attempting to restrain a passenger whom he suspected of having designs to plunge overheard. The steward was being hndlv worsted in the light, and lie was in sore distress. .Mr Justice Frazer was lying wakeful in his cabin. and lie had heard sounds of a distant struggle, hut when he heard the er.v “ Murder! Murder! ” he jumped from hed and rushed to Uie scene, arriving in time to save tin 1 steward from serious injury.
