There was a good attendance at llie Gas Company's cookery elass this afternoon at the Soldiers’ Hall. The result of the cooking contest was as follows: Miss Stephens Ist.. Mrs Hart 2nd.. ,Mi<s Barton 3rd.

Mr Coates announced that two important appointments had been made in the railway service. Mr J. Broun becomes Superintendent of Stall. in succession to Mr 11. A. Marris. retiring on superannuation. Mr E. Casey’s appointment as Divisional Superiitcendont for the North Island (in place of Mr W. 11. Males, retired on superannuation) is confirmed.
