STARS A’. EXCELSIORS. This senior game was played on Cass Square under good conditions, but the play was of a very moderate class. Stars were lucky to win on the run of the play but Excelsiors did not deserve to win. In the first half Excelsiors did most of the attacking, and early in the game King kicked a neat penalty goal. A few minutes later from a passing rush King crossed the line, but failed to improve. o—o. A failure among the backs to handle in midfield let the Stars away and after a loose rush Reynolds picked up and dodged over to score. Stevens converting. G—s. Half time came soon after.
■ In the second half Excelsiors attacked but lost many openings by penalties mainly for offside, while tliov had a full dozen good scoring positions that went wrong by faulty play. A Star rush to the other end nearly ended in a score and then for offside, Stevens piloted a neat kick, from well out, just inside of the posts. B—o. Though Excelsiors attacked for most of the rest of the play they could not drive home the attack, while Stars on two or three occasions that the ball went to Excelsiors line, nearly added to the score, tbe game ending in a win for Stars by 8 to G. The play genorallv. however, was of a very moderate quality and did not raise much enthusiasm among the spectators. All \ Askew was referee, and he had occasion to order off an Excelsior player towards the end of the game.
EXCELSIOR B.' Y. kANTEIIt. This junior game was played on No. 2 ground, and was a '.veil contested on-, the play travelling up and down the Held in rapid succession and there was not much difference between the teams, and resulted in a win lor Excelsiors by II points (tries by Perliam, and Herring, one being converted by King and a penalty goal by Ixing) to Kanieri 8 points (tries hv Ho'va and Orenrioy. one being converted by White), being a fair criterion ol the play. Air Cutbush was referee.

SOCCER. WANGANUI. Alav 28. The Canadian Soccer team pl.i.'td their second game of the New Zealand (hi- afternoon, defeating Vant,i |,v 7 goals to nil. The attendance uas OtIGO. The visitors were superior in all departments of the game, and ha ! they wished could pn-lmhly have increased their score considerably in the second hull.
N.Z. VARSITY WIN. SYDNEY, May 20.
The New Zealand University team won the. second Test match yesterday. The conditions were similar to those oi Wednesday's game. New' Zealand again' lost the toss, and kicked oil against the wind and the sun. Ihe play was very even. Both sides took a turn at attacking. Some likely movements were spoiled at the critical moment. Sheehan set hi, hacks moving well, but the New Zealand defence was sound. Butler and Ross, the respective full-hacks, got in several good linekicks. The Now Zealand forwards were holding thdir own in the tuck better than in the first Test, and they combined well in several good dribbling rushes. New Zealand was getting the ball fr on the set inn heller, hut the liaiid-
ling was poor. After some hard work, Lindsay scrambled over to score at the corner, three minutes before halt-time. Butler’s kick t goal failed, and the spell ended: New Zealand three. Sydney nil.
After the resumption Smith forced his way over to score. liutler’s kick went iust wide. New Zealand fi. Sydney 0. A minute later Lindsay secured the hall and made a good run, and evading Sheehan and Burge he scored in the corner. Butler again failed to convert. New Zealand 9, Sydney 0. Sydney then took a turn at attack. The hall came from a ruck to Lamport, and then passed through several hands to Burge, who scored. Boss converted. New Zealand 9. Sydney 5.
Play now brightened up. Holden got the hall from the serum, and dashed to the Sydney line, where lie lost possession, Alley dashed over and scored. Lindsay’s kick failed. New Zealand 12, Sydney 5.
A further exciting piece of play was started by the Sydney full-hack, which resulted in Sheehan scoring. Ross's kick went wide. New Zealand 12. Svdiiev 8".
Sydney again attacked strongly, and hammered at the Black Line. AVeak New Zealand tackling let Mann dash over. Ross failed to add the major points. New Zealand 12, Sydney 11. New Zealand then pressed hard, hut Sydney were relieved by a penalty. Hard and exciting play ensued, and Lindsay just on time dashed up and passed to Keogftn, who scored. Butler failed with the kick, and the game ended. New Zealand 15, Svdnev 11.
