QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY. SYDNEY, May 27.^ A wireless message from the JRenowii in the middle of the Indian Ocean, at noon on May 26th, states that the ship fired a Royal salute in honor of Queen Mary’s birthday. The ship was fully dressed, and in brilliant sunshine made a gay picture. The Duke and Duchess of York watched a parade and other ceremonies with much interest. LONDON, May 26. The Queen is sixty to-day. At an early hour came a special radio from the Renown, followed by a great. + mail bag and a constant stream of distinguished visitors. Real surprises were reserved for her grandchildren, whose gilts especially delighted the Queen. At the King’s luncheon party, at the Palace, there were fourteen members of the Royal Family, and the luncheon was a jolly affair.

ABORIGINAL MURDERS. A SERIOUS FINDING. PERTH, May 27. A royal commission inquiring into the alleged killing of aborigines in the north-west (cabled on May 9th) finds that four aborigines who met their deaths, were burned near Dale at the end of June. 1926, while in custody of Constables Regan and St. Jack, and the only persons responsible for those deaths were Regan and St. Jack. The finding continues: “Four more aborigines in the same month met tlieir deaths and their bodies were burned near Gote Goto Merrie. Three aborigines met their deaths and their bodies were burned at Mowerie. '1 liese aborigines at the time were in custody of Constabls Regan and St. Jack, Special Constables O’Leary and Jolly, civilians Overheu arid Murane, and trackers met their deaths at the hands of one or more of the police party but there was not sufficient evidence to establish definitely the actual murder-

The annual conference of associated booksellers of Australia and New Zealand resolved to recommend all booksellers in Australia and New Zealand to support Australian and New Zealand authors by giving special displays and publicity. It was also decided the Association arrange an Australian and New Zealand authors week.
