U.S.A. FLOOD. NEW YORK, May 25. News from New Orleans states that hundreds of residents in the Sugai Bowl district refuse to leave tlicii homes, in spite of the rushing waters which already cover sixty square mile; of the Point Coupee parish.

The inhabitants of the hamlets of New Beads and Morgan Sea refuse to evacuate declaring that they are not in danger. The refugee camns at Baton Rouge might hold fifteen thousand people by the week end, as the Atchatalaya River creeps over the fertile fields. This river forms a lake at one point 250 miles wide.

The Mississippi at New Orleans has dropped to 19 point nine feet. This is the lowest level for several weeks. Adjutant General Tombs has ordered the demobilisation of the National Guard, as the flood danger at New Orleans is believed to he past.

U.X.A. INDUSTRY. WASHINGTON. May 27j. The A.ustralian Industrial Mission was given a reception by Air 11. G. Chilton, the British Minister Plenipotentiary at AYashingtou, and the other Embassy officials. The British Ambassador. .Sir Esme Howard, was absent in Canada.

Air Guy, speaking on behalf of the Australians said that the Americans had been most kind in informing the Afission of everything about their industries. The Alission were about to prepare their report, which, they hoped, would he advantageous to the people of Australia. Air Chilton in responding, expressed pleasure at receiving the Australians.

The Alission has held a. preliminary meeting to arrange the plans for preparing the report. The Labour members intend raising the question of the press, they objecting to facts being published in Australia, regarding their action in excluding the press from the Mission’s conferences. The decision has so far been withheld, and the utmost secrecy is displayed. It is evident, however, that the employers are inclined to give further ground regarding the press, hoping thus to establish harmony.
