An examination of the proposed new electoral boundaries’ demonstrates interesting features from a licensing viewpoint. The. Boundary Commissioners are directed by statute to avoid interference with hotels if this is practicable and it is understood that the provisional boundaries in both the North and South Islands have liol destroyed any licenses. However, the no-license advocates will he able to claim nominal satisfaction in the increased number of dry constituencies. Auckland South, the new northern seat, is taken from flic dry areas of Grey Lynn. Roskill and Eden, and therefore is a lio-lkenxo area. -Wellington East has considerable boundary changes, involving absorptions from Wellington Suburbs, a dry area, and it emerges without hotels, though no loss to licensing interests in involved. Thus the Wellington area includes three dry constituencies. South, East and Suburbs. The disappearance of Ashburton. a no-license district, presented no complication over lost licenses. The boundaries gazetted are provisional and are subject to a further change after pot it ions are heard by the Commissioners.
