The funeral of the late Mrs W Smith took place yesterday morning anil was followed by a number ol friends. The Rev. J. W. Hayward conducted the service at the residence and graveside on which were placed a number of floral tributes.

The death of Clara, the eight-year-old daughter of .Mr and Mrs W . McKenzie. of Church Street, Groymouth, took place at the Westland Hospital early on Tuesday morning. She was a bright little girl, and a general favourite among her schoolmates. The parents and family will have the sympathy ot many Iriends.
In connection with the annual sevenaside tourney to lie held oil Cass Square on Friday, .lime 3rd. nominaI ions for the four classes will he received up to 8 p.m. on Monday next by Mr E. w. H conan, Secretary to the Westland Suh-Fnion. There is the usual keen interest being shown in this year’s tourney, and the competitions should ho keenly fought on!.
The annual social dance of the Hokitika Howling Cluli, one of the most popular dances of each season will he held in the Soldiers’ Hall on Friday of next week (King’s Birthday night). Ross’ Oreheslra will .supply the music, while a canahle ladies’ committee have charge of the supper arrangements. Being a holiday fixture the usual large attendance is looked for.
The funeral of the late Mr Thomas Brown, of Blue Spur, took place yesterday ntternoon and was largely attended, there being a long string of motor cars in the cortege. The services at St. Mary’s Church and the graveside were conducted' by Rev. Father Finerty. .Many flora! tributes were placed on the grave from sorrowing friends,
A good deal of interest is living centred in the gas cooking exhibition to take place at the Soldiers’ Hall next Thursday afternoon. Competitors will cook their exhibits at home, and points will he awarded in the four competing classes and gas appliances will be awarded as prizes to the competitors securing the largest number of points. During the afternoon Mrs Heinz will give a gas cooking dnivui-trat ion of a special menu.

The death of .Mrs Honorin Boyle, announced yesterday, which took place at tier resideiice, Donogliues, renlovps a very valued member of the community of many years standing. Deceased was horn in County Galway, Ireland, and was 80 years of ace. She came with her brother to New Zealand arriving at Dunedin in 1864 in the sailing ship Ben Lomond, and the following year arrived in Hokitika where she was subsequently married to the late Mr James Boyle, and had resided at Donoghuos ever since, hut for a few months spent in Aurkhlnd. Deceased was of a most generous nature, a typical gond-hearteil Irish lady and hosts of friends will sadly deplore her passing. She is survived by one son (Mr (Michael Boyle, a wellknown resident of Donoghuos) and six daughters (Airs Bernard Ward, of Xrnhura ; Airs H. F. Shingles, of KoTtorangi; Afrs A. Carroll, of Beefton; Afrs AT. Sullivan, of AVeheka: Afrs John Donovan, of AVailio; and Afrs Joseph Kelly, of iUlatapu), ahd a niece (Miss Alaygie 1 Ihrtwlgseiil wlio had resided with her for many years. Her husband aiid itireo other ehiklren had predeceased her. The funeral is taking place to Boss Cemetery on Friday morning.
