v—»e Thu only senior game played on Saturday was Kanieri v. Magpies, played at Greymouth. Kanieri proved the winners "by 29 to 3. Kanieri were superior in all departments of the game, and quite outelasso dtheir opponents. They were the heavier side, but weight was not Hie deciding factor in the game. Kanieri displayed very fine combination, and sound defensive tactics. Only on rare occasions was their

line threatened, and it was kept intact, throughout the game. Dow secured a free kick at goal, the only points gained h.v Magpies. Kanieri s tally was made up by three times by Tainui and one each by J. Stopforth. E. Pfalilert and Griffiths, while good kicking by Thomas, converting four tries an daceounted for a free kick at goal.

The junior game Rimu v. Ross, played at Ross resulted in a win for Ross by 21 to 3.

At Kokatahi, in the junior game, Ex celsior B. were defeated by Kokatah hv 12 to 0.

N.S.AV. v. COMBINED VARSITY lAustralia & N.Z. Cable Association. SYDNEY, May 22. The New South Wales rep. Rugby team yesterday defeated a combined team of the Sydney and New Zealand Universities. New South Wales won by 28 points to 11. The students were not playing up to their usual form. Their play lacked finish, and their passing rushes wont straight across the ground. Webb and Freeman, on the ’Varitv wing, see raced unable to get going. Ross, the New Zealander, went on at five-eighths at the last moment.

The New South Wales team', on the other hand, were in good form. Pratt, behind the serum, was ably supported by Lawton. These two initiated many likely movements, some of which, however. were spoiled by’offiside play at the critical moment. A. Ross (the Sydney University full-hack’) played an excellent game, and he was a tower of strength to his side. The University play was very disappointing. The final scores were: N.S.AV 28. ’Varsity 11.

The scorers for New Smith Wales in the second spell were: Pratt, Palmer. Towers and Bowers, Lawton converting hvo tries; while for the Universities, Freeman got a try which A. Ross converted, and Dunne kicked a penalty goal.
