Someone with an authoritive voice rang up the broadcasting station at Auckland (says the “ Sun ”). declared that lI.AI. Prison was speaking, and asked that a message should he broadcast at once announcing the escape of four prisoners. The names and descriptions of the men were given. Their height was stated, one man had very prominent front teeth. and limped, another was dark with a prominent sear on his nose, and the fourth man was described as oft. 11 in. tall and slim. All were said to he armed with revolvers and ammunition from the guard room. It was all very circumstantial and appeared to he official. But the station manager was cautious. Before broadcasting a scare round the countryside he communicated with the gaol officials. As a result, the police are now looking for the practical joker who failed so badly, and there is no line and cry for four escaped men.
