AUTISTIC QUOTATION.
PARIS, April 2. 'l'lie humorous weekly paper “Lo Riie’’ is in the habit of reproducing cartoons from the comic Press of other countries, including “Punch’'. The latter recently requested “Le Hire” to cease making reproductions of “Punch drawings on the ground that these reproductions were so small that they did not do justice to the work of the artists. The French paper, however, paid no attention to this request, whereupon “Punch" took the case to court and to-day the Third Chamber of the Seine Civil Court awarded "Punch’’ 5000 francs damages, plus 20>0 francs damages to each artist whose drawings have heon reproduced, in addition to a fine of 50 francs for each reproduction. “Le Eire” pleaded the right of artistic quotation, hut “Punch” argued that such a right only applied to anthologies, scientific works, and books of reference.
