WESTLAND ELECTRIC POWER BOARD
FRIDAY, AIAY 20th. The Board met. at 2.40 o’clock. Present: Alessrs AV. Butler (Chairman), B. Ward, .T. A. Murdoch, R. AVhiley, E. A. Wells, T. AV. Bruce. Air J. S. Langford was present by invitation. The minutes of the previous meeting were.read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved. INAA'ARD correspondence. From Alinister of Finance giving provisions of local Government Loan Board Act. governing future borrowing for works.—Received. From Under Secretary. Alines Department. writing in respect to the sale of the Honiara water races, and forwmdimi conies of correspondence with tfie solicitors of the Westland Power Sy l id i ea t e.—Re ee i ved. From ,T. S. Langford, on behalf of the AA'estland Power Syndicate, giving particulars of negotiations with regard to the progress of the purchase of the race.—Received.
From A. H. Pugh, Christchurch Road, asking permission to cross road with a telephone lino.—Received and approved. It was resolved that similar applications in the future he referred to the Company for remarks and any special conditions. From Louis Reid. Hokitika, applying for the position of canvasser for the sale of power and light.—Received and referred to the Company now being floated.
The Chairman (Air Butler), Afr Alurdoeli and Air J. S. Langford spoke in regard to the present state of the negotiations which were now being eoneluded. All the documents were being finalised, and would he produced for the seal of the Board at its next meeting. The conditions of the respective agreements had been approved by the Alines, Public Works and Telegraph Departments, and the Company was ready, almost for registration. The necessary formalities on that point had now been settled, and as the capital required was underwritten, the whole would be finalised very shortly now.
Afr Langford presented a plan of the projxised works to he undertaken, showing the site of the power stations, and an outline of the reticulation. He mentioned plant etc. would he available very soon, and it turned on the happenings within the next week if the power would he available for the A rail ura district by the beginning of the summer months. That was quite possible as far as lie could see, and he hoped there would not ha any undue delay. The estimated power to he produced would not be less tlian 3903 kilowatts, and it was pleasing to find already from the enquiries being made that the demand was very promising indeed. The industrial development promised to he very satisfactory. He thanked the Board for the assistance given the Syndicate, and thought the prospects of the Company about to he found were most satisfactory. The meeting concluded at 3.40 p.m.
