May IS. The Foreign Office has issued a statement to the effect that M. Briand, and Sir Austen Chamberlain (French and British Foreign Ministers) have bad a long friendly conversation, during which they examined various international problems, upon which they are in complete agreement. They again recognise the solidarity of the Entente and the necessity of strengthening it as the surest- foundation on which to build European peace.
WOMAN’S SUICIDE. NAPIER, May If). The body of an elderly single woman, Jean Lnwrencer~was found hanging in the outbuilding of a house at Hawick to-day. She was last seen alive on Monday evening. A letter was found in the house indicating the woman’s intention of committing suicide. A sum of over one hundred pounds was left in a prominent place, with instructions that certain small amounts he paid, and the balance given to the Charitable Aid Board. MOSCOW FEELING. MOSCOW. May 19. The crowd, after a meeting held here to protest against the Arcos raid in London, tried to reach the residence of the British Charge ct’Affaires, but the crowd was stopped by the mounted police and hv troops.
